Knowing what Sun sign you are is not enough. There is so
much more to you than whether you are a Gemini, Scorpio or
Virgo. In fact, if you know exactly what time you
were born, you can find out what your rising or ascendant
sign is. Your rising sign is the sign that was coming
up over the horizon when you were born. So unless you were
born on or right around sunrise, you have a very different
rising sign which influences your life every single day.
Your rising sign is almost as important
as your Sun sign, as it is the mask you wear
when in public. Your rising or ascendant sign is the daily
costume you selected at the moment you were born. It’s
the mask you wear everyday, the “you” everybody
else sees. If people have ever said that you ‘don’t
seem like a Leo’ – maybe your rising sign is Pisces?
That would lessen the dramatic effect of your Leo Sun sign
and make you far more sensitive and introspective than a classic
Leo. A great example of someone who doesn’t act like
his Sun sign is Hawthorn footballer, Shane Crawford.
Born under the sign of Virgo, he has his eye on fame and stardom
and with the recent documentary about him, there is no way
he acts like a ‘behind the scenes’ typical Virgo.
I’ll bet his rising sign is Leo – which would
explain his fabulous mop of hair and his desire to be in the
public eye.
Your birth chart represents your possibilities – knowing
if you have a tendency to be direct in matters of business
or fickle in matters of the heart. Just because you
were born under the sign of Aries doesn’t mean you necessarily
have all the characteristics of an Aries person.
You might not feel as if you are as aggressive, passionate
or bossy as depicted in books and descriptions of your Aries
Sun sign. That’s why having your chart done by a reputable
astrologer is such a great idea. Discovering you have Moon
in Capricorn for example could mean you will one day become
a world leader. Napoleon had a Capricorn
Moon, as did Abraham Lincoln and Indira Gandhi. People born
with Moon in hard working and tough Virgo tend to be in showbiz.
Madonna and Jennifer
Lopez both have Virgo Moons. People with Moon
in Virgo are perfectionists – very health and beauty
conscious and indestructible. Sigmund Freud
had his Moon in Gemini, feeling with his mind and then analyzing
his feelings.
And while the Moon is your emotional antenna – letting
you know whether you will be super sensitive (Moon in Pisces),
or a loner (Moon in Aquarius), there is so much more to your
chart and to finding out who you are. Where was Venus on the
day you were born? Venus is the goddess of love, balance and
harmony – in charge of how we feel not only about our
relationships and social connections, but also about what
we possess. Venus rules Libra and Taurus – some of the
best looking people are born under these signs (Librans include
Gwyneth Paltrow, Catherine
Zeta-Jones and Matt Damon,
while Taureans Enrique Inglesias,
Uma Thurman and David
Beckham prove that Venus is the goddess of beauty!).
Are you into designer clothes and accessories (Venus in Leo)
or in love with being in love (Venus in Libra)? Once you know,
you can learn to harness your energies and direct your focus
to finding your soul mate and choosing your friends as well.
And when you know where Venus is in your chart, you’ll
know if you are more likely to get into debt buying stuff
you can’t afford and don’t need and limit your
credit cards and your shopping expeditions.
Everyone communicates differently. Some people are outspoken
and brash, others are shy. Some people hold everything in
until they explode in a tirade, while others find it much
easier to e-mail as opposed to picking up the phone or confronting
someone one-on-one. Which one are you? If you have your chart
done, you’ll know much more about the way you deal with
people and issues in your life, and what you can do to enhance
your personality and business savvy. And that’s because
you will find out where Mercury was on the day of your birth.
Mercury rules Geminis and Virgos – both signs are usually
pretty into communicating. One of the biggest mouths in the
world belongs to a Gemini - Donald Trump.
Other Geminis include two very prolific songwriters, Prince
and Lenny Kravitz. Virgos tend to
be more behind the scenes – low-key but just as talented
– Keanu Reeves, Richard
Gere and Cameron Diaz
all fly below the radar but are rich and powerful people,
due to the way they communicate to the public – which
results in huge box office!. In Greek mythology, Mercury was
Hermes and was the messenger for the Gods. In our modern world,
Mercury rules communications of the electronic kind –
computers, mobile phones, two-way pagers, caller ID, fed-ex,
UPS, DHL, Air Express etc. However, if you feel you are technologically
challenged or hate using modern forms of communication (like
mobiles), maybe you have Mercury in Cancer – which would
make you far more into trusting your intuition versus what
a computer tells you.
Mercury goes out of phase (which means it has more of a negative
impact on us than a positive one) three to four times a year
and usually throws us into disarray. Mail goes missing, computers
crash and mixed signals cause problems. Knowing when this
is happening or occurring is vital – as Mercury retrograde
is a no-go zone when it comes to buying real estate, signing
contracts or starting anything new. For the record, Mercury
goes out phase next August 10 – September 2, 2004 and
again, November 30 – December 20, 2004.
Mars, the planet of passion and energy is a very important
part of your chart. Mars rules Aries (think Russell
Crowe/Alec Baldwin/Andy
Garcia – all volatile men!). Mars co-rules
Scorpio – who tend to be very passionate, but less verbal
and visually aggressive as Aries (think Bill Gates,
Jodie Foster and Leonardo
DiCaprio). Knowing where Mars is in your chart
is vital – as it shows you how to harness your physical
energy and use it to your best advantage. Are you destined
to be an Olympic athlete? Maybe you have Mars in Aries –
the first sign of the zodiac and the sign that always wants
to be first? Or if you prefer the lights of Broadway? Having
Mars in Leo will help!
Then there are the other planets – the
ones further away from Earth whose influence isn’t as
strong as the personal planets – Venus and Mercury,
which affect us on a day to day basis. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus,
Neptune, Pluto all have a say in our lives, but take years
to go through each sign, so their influence tends to be much
more subtle and drawn out than the others. Mercury and Venus
tend to spend about 3 weeks in a sign before moving on, while
Mars gets impatient after 6 weeks or so and heads off for
new adventures. The Moon changes signs every 2-3 days, so
those people born under the sign of Cancer which is ruled
by the Moon tend to have tremendous mood swings (think Courtney
Love, Jessica Simpson,
Mike Tyson – emotionally vulnerable
to say the least!)
So order your chart today

Venus is in and Mercury too – plus a whole lot of other
